   Summary

   Li Lun has always known that poison takes many forms. Some lie hidden in the roots of trees, others bloom in flowers, and some take root in the hearts of mortals. He has watched them seek it in one another, offer it as though it were a gift, and drink from the same cup even when they know it may bring them sorrow. Such peculiar creatures, these mortals, to find something worth holding on to even when it hurts.

   Perhaps the mortal heart is the cruelest poison of all. After all, the cruelest poisons are those that make you forget you were ever meant to resist them.

   And Li Lun, who has spent so long watching mortals drink, is about to discover what it means to reach for the cup himself.
