The wind is colder then it was earlier making you regret not swinging home and grabbing a jacket before hoping onto the roof of Kiba's home. With it being late October the chill of the wind seems to only be getting stronger. Its not to bad though, with how much heat Kiba naturally lets off and how close you two are helps fend off a little bit of the chill.
"Why'd you want to come up here?" you ask while shuffling a slightly closer seeking out his warmth.
Kiba looks off to side away from you blushing from your proximity. He is forever thankful for the sunsets light covers the pink tint of his cheeks "my mom's being annoying today I don't wanna deal with her yet"
You hum in understanding at that, you liked Kiba's mom and she seemed to like you quite a bit as well, but you know how he and his mom get sometimes- ok a lot of the time and it is not pleasant to be around.
"Makes sense, still doesn't tell me what you wanted to talk about though" you say teasingly nudging his foot with yours.
"I don't know" Kiba says shrugging still not looking at you.
"You don't know much do you?" you replace the teasing tone with a completely flat one but the grin on your face gives away what you're really feeling.
"What's that supposed to mean?!" Kiba raises his voice and you feel tempted to reach over and cover it knowing that if he got to loud his mom would most definitely come out to yell at him. Which you wouldn't be apposed to seeing, though the way he whines about it to you after takes away almost all of the humor from the situation.
"I'm joking" you raise your hands up in surrender "now keep your voice down unless you want your mom to come storming out here."
Kiba huffs at you and turns back to look at the setting sun. Moments like this have gotten few and far between for you two as you've gotten older. Being taken away by your Ninja duties has be come a normality replacing the daily hang outs you two would have though out your entire childhood. Memories of when Kiba would drag you into his closet and you would huddle together whispering secrets that you would never dare tell any one else at the time, to each other. That was something you haven't gotten to do with each other in quite a bit of time.
Actually since Kiba doesn't seem to know what to talk about (the way to focused look on his face gives that away) you could start sharing secrets again! you think grinning to yourself as you tap his leg to get his attention "You know, I never actually read the book Hinata gave me"
"What?" his eyes widen and he lets out the airy laugh he only does when he's caught off guard "but you two wouldn't shut up about it!"
"Yeah I was just pulling stuff out of my ass. It was not my thing at all, but like I felt bad I didn't enjoy it or finish it so when she asked me what I thought I just lied and guessed what happened based on the blurb, and I was right, so it was fine and it made her happy so I think it was a win"
"That's dickish dude" he pauses for a split second "I did the same thing"
"Yeah I guessed so." you say with a small laugh. Even though the book Hinata sprang onto him was only a hundred pages no one thought he would finish it not even her, she just wanted to include him in the book club she drag you and Shino (and by extension Lee) into so he wouldn't feel left out.
You know for a fact Shino knew you were lying about the book but he never said anything about it to Hinata most likely for the same reason you didn't.
"You remember the time I got lost on that mission when we were like fourteen?" Kiba says and by the way hes smirking you can tell he's about to say the dumbest shit every. The memory of his little disappearing act is still very vivid in your mind given that you guys were on a C-Rank mission that very quickly turned into an A-Rank mission. Kiba did disappear before that had happened though that didn't ease your worries for his safety, you fully thought he was kidnapped or worse till he showed up again with Akamaru on his tail complaining about how he had gotten lost.
You think that was the first time you every genuinely slapped him with the intention to actually make it hurt.
But never the less you still raise your eyebrows at him expectantly "what about it?"
"Me and Akamaru did get kidnapped"

Taking the deepest breath you think you've ever taken in your life you just barely managed to force down the need to grab him by the collar and shake him till he gains some smarts.
Kiba obviously notices this and inches away slowly like it actually has a chance to save him from your wrath "H-hey calm down! Let me finish!" you stare at him hard but don't do anything else besides that making him sigh in relief "I was fine they just kidnapped me to pet Akamaru"
"What?" you say in the same tone that he used earlier.
"Yeah! It was weird as fuck. They had never seen a dog before and instead of being normal and just asking me if they could pet him they decided to kidnap me and Akamaru so they could pet him as much as they wanted. Course that didn't happen since Akamaru almost bit one of their fingers off" he uses his hands a lot more then normal when recalling the events and it makes you, despite your now present annoyance at him, sigh fondly.
Him just being his stupid self always makes your heart warm even when you don't want it to. It's been that way for as long as you can remember, even when he was being an annoying little shit back when you guys first became ninjas the feeling stuck to you no matter how hard you tried to shake it away.
"This shit can only happen to you" you say shaking you head trying to still sound mad at him.
Chuckling nervously while rubbing the back of his neck you now notice the slight tint of pink to his cheeks that was most likely caused by embarrassment.
God he's cute.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner though?" you question as you grab his hand to pull him back closer to you. The wind has picked up more and you still need him to be your personal heater.
"I don't know, guess it just slipped my mind" he says with a small awkward laugh "'sides I've had bigger things to focus on" he looks away from you again but you manage to get a small glimpse of his cheeks reddening even more.
"Oh yeah? Like what?" you ask with genuine curiosity. You've never seen Kiba act like this before.
"Like this" he mumbles reaching into the pocket of his jacket pulling out a small box that you recognized instantly.
Three weeks ago Kiba had shared one secret with you that you wished to forget as soon as he told you. He likes someone. And on top of that he wants you to help him pick out a necklace that he could give the person when he confess. The only thing you could do was agree, as much as you loved him if he did not feel the same there was nothing you could do about it so you might as well do your best to help him get with the person who could make him happy.
You had asked what the person liked but Kiba was no help instead just telling you to pick what you thought would be best. You just rolled your eyes and did as he said knowing he wouldn't give you the answer you wanted.
The necklace you picked was one with black string with a red crystal carved into the shape of a dog on the end. It was rather cute and if you had been the one on the receiving end of it you would find it adorable that he would give you something that represented both him and Akamaru.
"Did you get rejected?" you blurt out. That's the only reason you can think of as to why he would still be holding onto it.
"Nah, I haven't had the chance to ask yet" his eyes meet yours now fiery and filled with something you can't place.
"Well why are you here with me then dipshit?" you huff a little annoyed he hasn't done it already so you could fully give up and mope around.
"Can I tell you one more secret?" he asks deflecting your question making another huff come out.
"Corse you can" you say with out any hesitation. Secrets will forever be your weakness.
He's the one to scooch closer this time, so close that your thigh is pressed against his and your shoulders nock together. Your eyes are fixed on his (slightly shaky) hand as he opens up the box
"The necklace is for you handsome" he picks it up and gently places it in your hand. "I've liked you for a long time and have been meaning to tell you for awhile. I just needed to find the perfect moment to tell the most amazing boy I have ever met that I love him" he says confidently and smoothly like it was the easiest thing to ever say, though the nervous look in his eyes and the twitch of his fingers gave him away.
Your silent for a few long moments making Kiba sweat as he watches your face redden more and more. He couldn't tell if it was from anger or if you reciprocated his feelings. Hinata assured him you did but he wasn't so sure.
"How long did you practice that for? It was way to smooth to not be rehearsed" you ask quietly as you run the necklace through your fingers.
"Wha- I did not rehears! I'm just going with what my heart tells me!" He says confidently but the look you give him makes him drop the act within seconds. "Awhile, Hinata and Ino helped" his face was just as red as yours now "but uh- you didn't reject me straight out so is that a yes...?" the hope in his voice makes your heart squeeze.
Sighing fondly you slip on the necklace a grin slipping onto your face "Yes Kiba I'll be your boyfriend"
