Wish

Summary:

Late into the night you find Luffy sitting on a hill looking at the sky

Work Text:

"Where the hell is that brat?" I sigh as I walk through the forest the sun having already long set, thankfully the wild life was deciding to leave me be tonight so I was able to roam around as I like without them annoying me.

I know Luffy could handle himself perfectly fine out here but it was way past the time he should be out even with the passiveness of the animals today. Besides Dadan wouldn't let me hear the end of it if I didn't. Luckily for me though he doesn't seem to know how to not leave an obvious trail in his wake. The fallen trees that were obviously torn down by Luffy for whatever reason were a pretty easy thing to follow.

The trail was long most likely he had been running in the same direction all day. I've been walking for almost an hour now and the signs of his past actions keep on coming showing no indication of ending. It takes another thirty minutes before finally I spotted him sitting a top a small hill.

"The hell are you doing Lu?" I ask as I reach the top of the hill and look down at him.

"Sitting!" He says cheerily turning to look up at me with a big smile on his face.

I huff rolling my eyes as I plop myself down next to him "yeah no shit. Why though? Dadan is going to freak if she finds out you were all the way out here and not in the tree-house"

"I don't care what Dadan thinks!" He states puffing up his cheeks in a look of annoyance that I can't help but laugh at. I remember Ace making the same face when we were his age, I don't even remember why he did it but he looked so ridicules that I couldn't help but laugh at him. That lead to me getting my ass beat but though so I don't think the laugh was worth it.

Ignoring my laughter he continues "Makino said that there were going to be shooting stars tonight and I wanted to have a good spot to watch them" he eventuates his words by laying down on the grass and staring up at the sky intently with a grin on his face.

"Really?" I say glancing up at the sky to.

I had heard talk of the shooting stars, apparently every twenty years or so hundreds of shooting stars go though the sky going by so quickly that if you blink at the wrong moment you would miss some of them. You would expect a festival or something to come about because of that but there isn't one that I know of at least.

"Yeah! I'm going to make a wish on every single one of them!" He say excitedly, throwing his hands up towards the sky as if he's trying to reach for the stars to grab one.

"Mind if I join you then? I wouldn't mind making a few wishes myself" I ask laying down next him before he could even answer.

Luffy begins talking my head off about ever wish he's going to make once the shooting stars come, unlimited meat, for Shanks to come back again, to be king of the pirates, for Garp to leave you all alone about becoming Marines, the list goes on and on as it gets later into the night with still no sign of the shooting stars you were both waiting for. I eventually started chiming in with my own wishes I was going to make once they came not really having much else to do as we waited.

Soon though Luffy starts talking slower while yawning and not long after that he was passed out. I wasn't surprised when he wrapped himself around my arm soon after, he always needed to be touching me, Sabo, or Ace while he was sleeping and I found it quite cute. So did Ace and Sabo though Ace would deny it till his voice was gone.

I almost fell asleep to but I fought it off both so in case the stars did eventually come (which I was beginning to doubt would ever happen) I wouldn't miss them as well as not wanting to give any animals wondering near any ideas.

A hour passed and still nothing but the slight breeze that was mostly blocked by the tall trees and I'm ready to pick Luffy up and go so he doesn't have to sleep on the ground any longer. As I begin to turn to pick him up I spot a flash of light dashing through the sky out of the corner of your eye and turn quickly to look at the source. And god am I happy I stayed.

A cacophony of bight lights zip though the sky so quick I can't tell we're one ends and another begins. It looks like hundreds of lights are flowing through the sky like it's the sea and I'm so mesmerized by the sight I almost forget to wake Luffy.

"Lu!" I call his name loudly shaking him "Lu look!"

It takes a moment for him to wake slowly opening his eyes with a groan but as soon as his eyes land on the sky he's shooting up and looking at the sky with wonder.

"Whoa!" He says in amazement the massive grin on his face infecting mine as well. This feels truly like a once in a lifetime thing. It's simply to much of a unbelievable sight that I feel as if nothing like this will ever be witnessed again even though I know that's not the case.

Beside me Luffy is quietly staring in complete awe a sparkle shining in his eyes that looks exactly like the looking stars as if the mini suns are shining from behind them ready to be let free. I fully look over at him away from the sea of stars and tilt my head, the look on his face really makes me just wanna squeeze him with love.

"Start wishing before their all gone" I say quickly reminding him of what he desired from the start.

The look of realization that springs to face almost makes you laugh again but you are able to suppress it this time as he begins to quickly list everything he told you and more.

You on the other hand only have a single true wish.

Your wish that you keep to yourself instead of voicing to Luffy is simply for you and your brothers to stay together till it is impossible to do so any longer.
