“I’m hooome!” Mizuki exclaimed in a sing-song voice as she walked through the door. She shut it behind her, then slipped out of her shoes and hopped into the living room. She looked left and right, then realized that the apartment was silent and her family was nowhere to be found.
“Ena? Mia? Hajime?” Mizuki called. She was met with no response.
“Huh, that’s weird… Usually Mia comes running up to me…” she mumbled to herself, putting a hand to her chin. “Well, that’s fine.” She dropped her arm and shrugged it off. She then went to set down her purse in her and Ena’s room.
About halfway down the hall, Mizuki noticed that the door to the room was ajar. She slowly took a few more steps toward it, then peeked her head in.
On the large bed lay Ena and the kids. All three of them were fast asleep, their shallow breaths the only sound in the room. Ena was on the very left, with Hajime curled up in her arms. Next to him was Mia, who was all sprawled out.
“Ahhh, so that’s why nobody greeted me. It’s naptime,” Mizuki whispered to herself. She couldn’t help but chuckle. Her family was so cute.
“They look so comfortable…” Mizuki hummed. She suddenly grinned wide. She ought to join them.
Mizuki tiptoed to the right side of the bed so as to not make a sound, set her purse down on the night table, then rested a hand on the bed. The mattress sunk down as she put her weight on it, which was enough to get Mia to stir.
“Hm? Mom? You’re home?” she yawned. She rubbed her eyes groggily.
“Mhm, and I’m feeling tired, too,” Mizuki whispered happily. Understanding what her mother was saying, Mia scooched closer to Hajime to make space for her. Mizuki took the opportunity and got up on the bed, then lay down on her side.
“Can we hug, too, Mom?” Mia asked, looking up at her with pleading eyes.
“Of course,” Mizuki chuckled. She spread out her arms a little. Mia then snuggled into Mizuki’s chest and drifted back to sleep with a soft smile.
However, just then, someone else woke up.
“Mizuki?”
Ena was staring at Mizuki with half-lidded eyes. Beneath her, Hajime was also shuffling around.
“Go back to sleep, love,” Mizuki said, reaching over and brushing her hand over Ena’s eyes.
“Mm… Okay,” Ena yawned, too sleepy to be snappy. Seeing her wife fall back asleep, Mizuki also felt weariness take over her. Soon enough, she, too, was sleeping.
The family had sweet dreams.
