Work Text:
Ignis tried to recall Noctis' face, terrified of losing the sight of him in his minds eye without his eyes to help him. The shape of his eyes, bridge of his nose, gentle quirk in the corners of his lips; he can remember them as clear as day. Still, he cannot shake the feeling that someday he will think of him and realize there is a part missing. He felt silly during those days where he turns to Prompto or Gladiolus for help remembering; they can so easily just consult the many photos taken of their beloved while Ignis has to be guided through the planes of his face and hair like a child. The two of them don't laugh or chide him; rather they rest a gentle hand on his shoulder or above his knee, speaking with a misty-eyed recollection of Noctis' beauty. Prompto sings praises of his eyes, a gentle blue that was both determined and welcoming. With his words, images resurface in Ignis' mind of his beloveds eyes, how they looked to him for comfort and reassurance, and how they led Ignis to walk forward even when he was the one meant to guide him. Gladio speaks fondly of his hands, somewhat hardened from their days on the road, but still retaining their soft elegance. It makes Ignis think of the times he had held those hands since their youth; when Noctis would wake with a start in the night, arms reaching for Ignis, breaths not calming until he could feel his grasp.
He was born for Noctis. The responsibility for the young man weighed on Ignis' chest, but it was a presence he loved dearly. Now that Noctis was gone, a horrible emptiness had burrowed in his heart that not even Prompto or Gladio could mend.
He'd mentioned such to the two before, feeling guilty, as though he was saying they weren't as important to him, but they instead embraced them tightly. They understood his plight; they had also spent years living for no one else.
"Gods, his eyes were so pretty. They always seemed to be glowing even when he wasn't using any magic. Like he was magic himself - heh, that sounded really cliche." Prompto reminisced one night, his soft laughter tight with emotion, as they all lay in bed together, hands running along each others bodies with no intention in mind, simply exploring one another as they had done countless times before. Ignis couldn't find the words to reply, mind wandering as he replayed images of Noctis over and over again.
"I wish we got to see more of him at our age," Gladio started, "It's funny. He had that sharp jawline and everything but he still looked like a kid to me."
The charged energy in the air was giving way to their solemn memories, but Ignis didn't want to lose it, and so he brought his hands to the face of the closest person and placed a kiss on his lips. Prompto responded in kind, moving to grab one of Ignis' thighs to rest atop his waist, Gladio joining them by kissing along his back. Ignis felt weightless as he felt the two men begin to gently grind their hips against him, shucking off their remaining clothes and helping Ignis do the same.
Pressed beneath Gladio, body opening up for his beloved as Prompto held and praised him, Ignis remembered the sweetness on Noctis' face as Ignis deflowered him. His soft, round features twisting in discomfort and pleasure as Ignis placed a kiss to his forehead, making it known just how much he loved him with each gentle thrust and soft bite to his neck and jawline. He'd held his hand tightly then, a moment in time he wished he could share as Gladio does the same to him. Ignis could feel the sound and sensations of where he was begin to melt into Noctis once again, the three of them together with the fourth man lying with them, even in death.
Prompto and Gladio fell asleep long before Ignis did. Alone, he stood up and stepped towards the window, where the darkness still hung so early in the morning. He pressed his forehead to the cold glass, the feeling reminding him of the days spent under the endless moon, when the three of them still anxiously waited for Noctis.
When Ignis felt the ghost of a touch against his face, a flash of blue in the reflection of the glass, he did not mind waiting for Noctis again. When the three of them meet their ends, Ignis muses, they will hold him again, swimming forever in the snow of time.
Yes, Ignis thinks. I will wait for him again.
