The event was over, they had lost. It was impressive, considering what Mob’s group had on their side. Five powerful entities, four of them were killed during battle. Mob wasn’t sure how he and Twixxel got out alive, but he was glad. However, it had been a while since he’d seen his friend. So, Mob decided to go to Twixxel’s base to check up on him.
Mob walked inside the creepy-looking house, holding Verity in his hand. He could appreciate Twixxel’s dedication to the horror aesthetic, and he was quite good at it. Even though Mob knew there was nothing dangerous inside the house, he still felt chills running down his spine. The darkness, the crying…
Wait, crying?
Mob followed the sound of sobbing until he reached the house’s bedroom. He opened the door and walked inside. At the corner, he saw Twixxel, curled up and bawling his eyes out while facing the wall. That… wasn’t what Mob had been expecting.
“They’re dead. He killed them. They’re both dead, Mob.”
Mob wasn’t sure how Twixxel was able to tell it was him, but he supposed his friend learned a thing or two from the entities he hung around with.
“Twixxel, are you okay…?”
“They’re dead, Mob!” Twixxel turned around, Mob could now see how red and teary his eyes were. His friend’s devastated appearance was enough to startle Mob, he’d never seen Twixxel like that “Creator and Stalker are both dead!”
Mob felt a little awkward. He understood, he did! Really! But what was he supposed to do in that situation? Mob knelt down close to Twixxel and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Hey, uh… it’s alright,” that didn’t seem to have worked, Twixxel was still crying “Uhhh… Verity, can you say something to calm him down?”
“Don’t be sad, Twixxel!” Verity’s cheerful voice caught Twixxel’s attention “Creator wasn’t even that good of a friend, he abandoned you during battle!”
“How dare you! He would never do that!”
And Twixxel started sobbing even harder. Mob facepalmed. Why did he even ask for the AI’s help in the first place? Mob already knew Verity lacked the ability to read the goddamn room. But Verity always spoke the truth, so that meant…
“I’ll say, I find it very difficult to believe that an entity as powerful as Creator was killed…” Mob thought out loud.
“He’s dead, Mob! I’ve said his name a thousand times and he hasn’t shown up! If he were alive, he would’ve—” Twixxel choked on a sob.
“Hmm…” Verity mimicked being lost in thought “I wouldn’t be so sure about that, why don’t you try again?”
“Try again…?”
“Yes! Call for him, as loud as you can. Maybe then he’ll listen.”
Twixxel took a shaky breath, trying to compose himself as much as he could.
“Creator!” although Twixxel’s voice cracked slightly, the call was clear. The three occupants of the room looked around and saw… “Nothing…” Twixxel buried his head in his knees.
Just then, Mob felt a heavy presence right beside him. He slowly turned his head towards the direction of said presence. Creator was there, standing tall, focusing its attention on Twixxel. The entity tilted its head in confusion.
“Twixxel?” Mob lightly shook his friend “You might want to see this.”
Twixxel lifted his head. The moment he saw the entity, a big smile appeared on his face.
“Creator!” Twixxel quickly got up from the floor to stand in front of his entity friend. Mob got up too, just he wouldn’t be the only one on the floor “You’re alive!”
“I am alright,” Creator said, lightly patting its master’s head. Twixxel didn’t even bother waving him off.
“I’m so relieved, I thought they killed you! I thought—” Twixxel choked on a sob again.
“I am sorry, Twixxel. It will not happen again.”
“Creator, I don’t care that we lost. I’m just happy you’re here.”
Mob had a feeling that Creator was not apologizing for their loss. Mob gave Creator the nastiest glare he could muster. The entity, surprisingly, didn’t retaliate. It knew it deserved it.
“Not a word,” Mob whispered to Verity. The AI didn’t react.
“Wait, is Stalker still alive?” Twixxel suddenly asked. No one answered “Uh… Verity…?”
“Stalker is dead,” Verity declared.
“Right, I thought so. But at least we’re still here. I never want to be part of another one of these.”
“I wouldn’t mind joining another event…” Mob said.
“Then go by yourself. I don’t want to see my friends die again.”
“Twixxel, Creator can’t even die.”
“I don’t care, I’m not doing this anymore. Come on, Creator. Let’s go back home.”
Creator vanished from sight, Twixxel walked out of the house’s bedroom. Mob sighed. At least his friend was feeling a little better.
“We should be going too,” Mob told Verity “There is nothing left for us in this world.”
