The show had just ended, and Impulse watched with a smile as Ren gave his thank you speech. He was so in his element and had clearly enjoyed putting a smile on everyone’s face.
Now, the last thing he expected was for Ren to mid-speech turn 90° degrees and gesture towards him behind the stage.
“And an extra big thank you to my boyfriend, the technician that made this all possible, Impulse!”
At first he didn't know how to react, then realized it was probably really confusing, as everyone would expect for this boyfriend Impulse guy to appear. So he dragged his legs forward and up on stage he went, putting a (now forced) smile on his face.
“I might be here thanking everyone, but this would never have been possible without you,” Ren said, “So is there anything you would like to say to the people?”
As he finished his sentence he held the microphone in front of Impulse's face. He might as well have given the microphone though; Ren didn't need a microphone to be heard, his voice was loud enough on its own.
He left Impulse dumbfounded, stumbling over his own words for a bit before giving up and just falling completely silent. Blood rushed to his face, turning it red, and he felt like he could sink through the ground.
So Ren gently pulled the microphone back, “That's alright baby, you know these are quite a lot of people watching us two.”
The crowd made a collective awh sound and Ren gave him a peck on the lips before allowing him to walk off again.
Now Impulse wanted to be mad at Ren, he really did, but just couldn't. Not with that happy face, worryless tone, and more confidence than he ever had in this setting.
